Course Lengths – announcement

December 12th, 2017

It’s not usual to publish course lengths for a club competition three or four months in advance but the courses for „Beograd Open 2018“ have been ready for some time due to the fact that the map already exist. It helps competitors to be informed about the course lengths awaiting them in the race, for better preparation and to make a choice at least. We will make a serious effort to set a trend in Serbian orienteering to be more thorough in planning courses, with greater emphasis on recreational categories and pre-selections (children under 10 years).

Of course, the competition categories aren’t neglected. The courses will be in line with the slogan of the competition: Forest orienteering as it should be – challenging and fun.

Start of mapping for Beograd Open 2018

November 19th, 2017

The middle of November is the perfect time to start mapping. There was some forest cutting and new paths finding – and we made some changes. Do not worry – numerous pits, knolls, hills and depressions are still there. Courses settings are almost finished, and those details will be published for Christmas and New Year holidays.

Babe again after short break

September 2nd, 2017

Do you remember a project existed a several years ago called “101 orienteering maps you should run before you died”? Great enthusiastic work made by Ivan Nagy and Jan Kobach to collect at one place interesting mapped terrain all over the world, unique, demanding, with historical or interesting remarks. Babe terrain aren’t there in the book but if those project have got second opportunity for life, then it should be involved into content as “high level priority”. A piece of ground used as copper mine even from Roman Emperor age, captured and turned into a orienteering map by group of Czech mapmakers. Thousands of depressions, pits, holes, knol`s, broken ground and contour micro forms required from athletes good navigation skills in full running speed.
Here you may find invitation for 2018.

And here you may watch a video made with head-cam by Romanian senior Daniel Barkasz
